This is one of the busiest places in the hospital, they are a dedicated team responding to emergency situations, offering lifesaving care.
The team is lead by the champion 🏆leader, Sr Ngemntu.

Thank you to volunteer midwife @carolien_zeelenberg who facilitated the classes for us.

We did not get it perfect 🥰 this time, we are needing to fine tune to provide what is ideal for the women.....but we are so glad to have made a start.

We have formed an invaluable relationship with a N

We have formed an invaluable relationship with a Norwegian based company with a South African arm working from Capricorn Park, Cape Town.
They offer a range of Ready-to-Use Foods for use in prevention and treatment of malnutrition in children and adults.

Our relationship with the company developed after a request from the Khayelitsha District Hospital dieticians seeking support for the malnutrition they are seeing on a daily basis in Khayelitsha. As with many things in our hospital, the resources we have are just not enough to meet the demands of the impoverished community we serve.

@gcrieber has supported us with donations of Eezy paste, their Ready to use therapeutic food, to treat malnutrition in children.

An emergency WhattsApp from our lead dietician said their store was bare, as they had finished their supply of Eezy paste. A call to GC Rieber was met with almost immediate donation, for which we were deeply grateful.

Little Zola (not her real name), saw our dietician on 5 September 2024. She is a little girl well known to KDH and the Dietetics department. She suffers from Chronic Lung disease; is stunted and underweight.

If the donation had not been received on the 4th September, little Zola would have left without the Nurtitional support she so desperately needs to keep her body developing as best it can.

Message from, @muqs_mopat, the KDH lead dietician just after she had received the donation:
“I actually have a patient booked today who requires it and I’m so glad you assisted us because she would have been so sad without it. She is a little girl who has got Chronic Lung Disease; is stunted and Underweight.
It really makes a difference in her daily intake requirement.
We do appreciate all help we can get.
To be able to make a difference.
To keep this little girl Thriving.
Makes me feel so warm inside.”

@anri_smit_ will be joining her fellow interns @lifes_tough_we_move @_sonalimohan @maykhine_ @kelz_h @peterb_08 as they take part in the @gunrunsa next weekend!

“As Doctors, we believe in the transformative power of community. With this spirit, we are launching a heartwarming initiative to build a playground for the children in our care. Inspired by the timeless adage “It takes a village to raise a child” we are uniting a dedicated group of hospital staff and supporters to achieve this goal.

Our mission is simple but profound; to create a safe, joyful space where children in the hospital can play; heal, and thrive. To bring this vision to life, we are challenging ourselves to run the Gun Run, symbolizing our commitment to overcoming challenges for the greater good.

We recognize that building this playground requires more than just physical effort; it request a robust support network. That’s why we are forming a supportive community for our fundraising and training efforts. Together, we will encourage each other; share resources, and celebrate every milestone along the way!

This space is dedicated to supporting women through the most profound and challenging moments. This room offers comfort and compassion during a time of loss.

We have endeavoured to thoughtfully design the space to still be clinically functional but provide solace and support, ensuring that women can navigate their labour and birth experience with dignity and care.

With a serene environment and empathetic staff, we aim to honour each individual’s journey with warmth and understanding, providing a gentle refuge during a time of profound grief. 💙🌸
